GURUVAYUR
SREE KRISHNA TEMPLE
Guruvayur, located in Chavkkad Taluk where the famous Sree Krishna Temple is
situated, is one of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres of India.
It is believed that Devaguru - Brahaspathi and Vayu Bhagavan in the presence
of Parasurama adomed the idol at Guruvayur. Only Hindus are allowed inside the
temple.
There are direct train and bus service to Guruvayur. Temple is situated at 29
Kms away from West of Thrissur.
The important religious festivals are the Ashtami Rohini (Aug-Sept), the Sukla
Paksha Ekadasi (Nov-Dec), the Vishu Kani (April-May), and the 10 days Utsavam
(Feb-March) of these the Edakasi draws the largest crowd. Guruvayur Sathyagraha
of historical importance was launched in front of this temple inn. A pillar
has been installed here.
MUMMIYUR TEMPLE
(1 Km away from Guruvayur)
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The visit to Guruvayur is not complete
without a visit to Mammiyur. This Shiva temple is renowned for its wall paintings
and exquisite sculpture.

VADAKKUMNATHAN TEMPLE
This temple is a classical example of Kerala style of architecture and has many
decorative murals and works of art. This is the venue of the world famous Thrissur
Pooram Festival celebrated annually in April-May. Non-Hindus are not allowed
inside the temple.

4.30 am to 11 pm, 5 pm to 8.30 pm.
"NALAMBALAM"
Visiting nalambalam is considered to be a sacred event during the Malayalam
month Karkidakam. Nalambalam consists of temples of brothers Sri Rama, Bharatha,
Lakshmana & Shathrugnan.
1. Thriprayar : - (22 Kms from Thrissur) Famous temple dedicated to Lord Shri
Rama. The important festival here is the Thriprayar Ekadasi held for three days
in Vrischikam (Nov-Dec). Offering timings - 4.30 am to 12.30 pm, 4.30 pm to

2. Irinjalakuda Koodalmanickam Temple: - (21 Kms from Thrissur). This ancient
and historic is dedicated to Bharatha the Brother of Sri Rama. The colour full
11 day annual festival in Medom (April-May) with pageant of 13 caparisoned elephants.

3. Payemmel Temple: - (40 Kms from Thrissur near Aripalam- Irinjalakuda) this
ancient and historic is dedicated to Shathrugna the Brother of Sri Rama. It
is considered to be the only one temple dedicated Shathrugna.
4. Moozhikulam Temple:- Situated near Angamaly in Ernakulam District. Dedicated
to Lord Lekshmana, bother of Lord Sri Rama.
SRI KURUMBA BAGAVATHI TEMPLE, KODUNGALLUR
